A powerful, brain-based therapy for trauma, anxiety, grief, depression, and ADHD, available in Dallas, TX at Montgomery Behavioral Health Institute, LLC.
Brainspotting is a groundbreaking, brain-based therapeutic approach developed by David Grand, Ph.D. It operates on a simple but profound premise: where you look affects how you feel.
Trauma, painful emotions, and difficult experiences are not just stored in our thoughts. They live in the body, the brainstem, and the deeper subcortical regions of the brain. Traditional talk therapy engages the thinking mind. Brainspotting goes deeper, directly accessing the parts of the brain where trauma is held, allowing for processing and healing that talk therapy alone often cannot reach.
By identifying specific eye positions, called “Brainspots,” that correlate with emotional and physical activation in the body, Brainspotting creates a direct pathway to the source of pain, allowing the brain and nervous system to do what they are naturally designed to do: heal.
Brainspotting sessions take place in a calm, safe, and confidential setting. You will never be pushed beyond what feels manageable. The process is always guided by your own nervous system’s pace.
Identify an issue, memory, or feeling you’d like to work on.
Notice where you feel it in your body.
Follow a pointer or your own gaze to find a specific eye position that activates or resources that feeling.
Simply allow your brain and body to process, with music, dual attunement, and mindful presence supporting you throughout.
Many clients report experiencing significant shifts in fewer sessions than they expected. Brainspotting works efficiently because it bypasses the analytical mind and goes straight to the source.
At MBHI, Brainspotting is offered by a Certified Brainspotting Therapist with decades of clinical experience. It is frequently integrated with Art Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Animal-Assisted Therapy with Sir Garvey Ross, CGC, creating a truly individualized, whole-person approach to healing.
Yes. Growing research supports Brainspotting’s effectiveness for trauma, anxiety, and performance enhancement. It is used by clinicians worldwide and continues to be studied across a range of populations and concerns.
Both are brain-based approaches for trauma. Brainspotting is less structured and more client-led, allowing the nervous system to guide the process rather than following a fixed protocol. Many clients who have not responded fully to EMDR find Brainspotting to be a meaningful next step.
Every client is different. Some experience significant shifts in just a few sessions. Others incorporate Brainspotting as an ongoing part of their therapy. We will assess together what frequency and duration makes the most sense for your goals.
